At BM Foods, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment. Our journey to reduce our carbon footprint began over a decade ago and we have a clear roadmap for the short, medium and long term. Our preliminary assessment of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions shows that we can achieve Net Zero from our direct operations before 2040.

Our journey to Net Zero

Net Zero Graph
Sourcing of natural gas blended with biogas by 2027
Switch from diesel to electric HGVs and cars by 2035
Use of low GWP refrigerants at manufacturing sites by 2035
Potential sourcing of biogas supply to replace natural gas from between 2035 and 2040
Initial reduction is due to projected decarbonisation of the national grid (BEIS)
Switched to 100% renewable grid supplied electricity across all sites from 1st April 2024
Sourcing renewable gas supply across all site by 2033

Where we’re going

2024 onwards

How we are reducing

Indigo Food Group began our plastic reduction journey in 2019. Since then, we have implemented measures that have avoided the use of 100 tonnes of plastic. With the exception of top films in our products, all other components in our packaging are 100% recyclable.

Our goals include

25% reduction of plastic waste during manufacturing by 2030
Evaluation of alternative to unrecyclable top films and flow wrap plastic (e.g. compostable material)
Across our sites, we endeavour to send all of our finished food waste to FareShare
Over the last 5 years, we have evolved to facilitate energy recovery from all our remaining food waste.
